What made you start designing jeans?

It all started with the challenges we both faced in finding a great fitting jean. So we started speaking to other women and soon realized that every woman had a similar story… “I took 20 pairs of jeans into the fitting room and none would fit…” the list went on and on. We wanted to give these women a voice… And the perfect fitting jeans.

How did you turn your dream into Beija-Flor Jeans?

My husband, Emilie’s father, is from Brazil. Through many visits there, we noticed how Brazilian women truly embraced their curves. Brazilian jeans seemed to be made to fit every woman and above all, were designed to make her feel sensual and more confident.

So we forged a partnership with a Brazilian producer, one of the most innovative denim companies in the world, and crafted our first jean, the Jennifer. We took her on the road, doing jeans parties up and down the East coast and found that she fit almost everyone.

Who is the Beija-Flor customer?

She is every woman that has ever struggled to find a great fitting pair of jeans. From mothers to daughters just like myself and Emilie - any woman that feels that designers are simply not designing clothing for her. We listen to that woman and design our entire line to fit her and her busy life.

What makes Beija-Flor different from other denim brands?

Unlike many other brands, our jeans are created by women, for women. We believe women should embrace their shape, so our jeans are designed to work with a woman’s curves rather than against them.
